Description

To Korea With Love is a biography of Faye Pinchbeck Moon, written by her daughter Youngme Moon. Originally written in Korean and published in Korea (No One Listened to Her Story, 1999), it has now been translated into English for publication in the U.S.
This is the moving personal story of an American woman, whose marriage in 1961 to a Korean theologian and democratic leader led her on an unexpected life journey. In a time when international marriages were still uncommon, this story relates, with pathos and humor, Faye s struggle as a wife and mother in a foreign culture; her attempts to become completely Korean, and then to come to terms with her American identity; her search for meaningful work within the Korean culture; her part in forming an intentional Christian commune; her employment as a social worker with the U.S. Army, which led to knowledge about the realities of life for Korean prostitutes; her loneliness and struggle during her husband s political imprisonment; and her establishment of the mission center My Sister s Place for poor Korean prostitutes living around U.S. military bases.
The book gives a first-hand account of the impact of U.S. military presence on the Korean people. Finally, it chronicles her re-entry into the U.S. some 30 years later, the unexpected culture shock and depression she experiences, and her work with Korean women living in the U.S. as a result of marriage to U.S. soldiers.
